8 Weeks Before Moving Day

• Set your moving budget and start requesting quotes.
• Book your moving company, especially for a May–August move.
• Start a keep, donate, and toss sort one room at a time.
• Research schools, HOA rules, and flood zones in your new neighborhood.
• If buying in Florida, check the current homestead-exemption deadline and requirements with your county property appraiser.

4–6 Weeks Before

• Start collecting boxes or order moving supplies.
• Notify your children's school and begin new enrollment paperwork.
• Begin using food in the freezer and pantry.
• Schedule time off work for moving day.
• Confirm your date and any deposit details in writing.

2 Weeks Before

• Submit your change of address with USPS.
• Transfer or schedule power, water, and internet service at both homes.
• Arrange care for children or pets on moving day.
• Pack a first-night box with toiletries, chargers, clothing, and basic tools.
• Confirm parking and loading access, especially in older or gated neighborhoods.

Moving Week

• Finish packing everything except essentials.
• Label boxes by room, not only by contents.
• Defrost the freezer if you are bringing the refrigerator.
• Confirm the crew's arrival time.
• Set aside your payment method and cash if tipping is part of your plan.

Moving Day

• Check every closet, cabinet, and drawer.
• Photograph the empty home and any existing damage at your new place.
• Keep IDs, medical records, titles, and other important documents with you.
• Do a final walkthrough of the truck before it leaves.

After the Move

• Update your driver's license and vehicle registration if you are new to Florida.
• Update your voter registration if desired.
• Locate the nearest urgent care, pharmacy, and grocery store.
• Introduce yourself to a neighbor or two.

Florida-Specific Details Not to Forget

Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. Monitor the forecast and ask your movers about severe-weather plans.

Heat and humidity can affect wood furniture, electronics, adhesives, and framed art. Pack them carefully and avoid leaving a loaded truck in direct sun longer than necessary.

Many gated and HOA communities require advance notice or permits for moving trucks. Check before moving day.
